Massachusetts Department of Public Health Consultant Vacancy Announcement
Contract with Individuals PERIOD OF SERVICE: through August 31, 2008 with renewal subject to appropriation POSITION NUMBER: 00172119 and 00152647 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Director of the Office of Oral Health and consulting with the Directors School-based Health Centers. The Oral Health Consultant will develop, implement and promote oral health prevention programs in school-based health centers. Coordinate community and parent oral health meetings to promote utilization of school-based oral health programs. Provide oral health prevention services at school-based health centers and coordinate the delivery of restorative dental care identified at these facilities. The Oral Health Consultant will serve as a resource and liaison for advocates, parents and caretakers of children with special health needs; develop a referral system for children with special needs in need of a dental home and collaborate with established public and private partnerships to implement specific activities outlined in the state’s oral health action plan. Participate in the planning and delivery of workshops on oral health awareness, school health and presentations and reports as needed. Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office of Oral Health. This position will include (a) a primary focus on prevention; (b) assessment of oral health issues; (c) promotion and implementation of oral health services; and (d) coordination between community health providers to support and promote access to comprehensive oral health services for low-income and underserved children in all age categories. SALARY/FEE: Up to $33.00 per hour depending upon experience and education. One position is for up to 30 hours /4 days per week and another position is for up to 22.5 hours/3 days per week MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Applicants must be a currently licensed Massachusetts dental hygienist; 2. Experience working with child populations; and 3. Experience working with prevention programs in non-traditional settings. Applicants must have a dental hygiene degree from an accredited dental hygiene school and a BS degree preferred, but not mandatory for applicants to be considered qualified for the position. The ideal candidate possesses community outreach experience, and previous experience in the management of school-based prevention programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of school-based oral health prevention programs, technical assistance and outreach. The successful candidate will be able to work as part of a team, manage multiple tasks independently, and have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as computer competency (experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel). A current driver’s license and the ability to travel within the Commonwealth during and after normal school and working hours are essential.
