Component Courses | Dental Hygiene Schools | Special Courses | Annual MDHA Conference Continuing Education Requirements for Dental Hygiene Licensure in the Commonwealth Dental hygienists must have proof of a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education that has significant intellectual or practical content which deals primarily with matters directly related to the practice of dentistry or dental auxiliary functions or with the professional or ethical responsibilities and obligations of licensees (234 CMR 5.04). This requirement must be completed during the two calendar years preceding January 1st of the year of renewal (odd years for dental hygienists). Up to 100% of the required CEUs may be met by successful completion of educational and scientific courses, examinations, and specialty boards. A maximum of 50% of the required CEUs may be met through papers, publications, and scientific presentations; a maximum of 25% of the requirement may be met through teaching or research activities of at least 1 full day per week per academic year; a maximum of 20% of the requirement may be met by development and presentation of table clinics and scientific exhibits; and a maximum of 20% of the requirement may be met by taking self-instruction courses, including online courses. Additional awareness of incorporating simple chair side tests for dental health professionals to help educate and motivate their patients for better home care and healthier lifestyles. Discussions include steps for risk assessment including Strep Mutans testing and testing for acidity of saliva and in plaque. About the Presenter: Sandy Anderson has over 30 years of experience in the dental industry. As a District Sales Manager for GC America, she covers dental practices and schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Sandy’s past experience includes work as a dental assistant and sales experience with Johnson & Johnson and Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals. She has held a number of professional titles.

Whitening products and restorative materials have evolved to meet the needs of today’s dental patient. This course will cover the evolution of these products, the types of products and materials available, and recommended clinical techniques to maintain the 21st century smile. About the Presenter: Gail Malone, RDH, BS is a clinical educator for Dentsply professional. She received her dental hygiene degree from Montgomery Country Community College in Blye Bell, PA and completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA. Gail’s experience of more than 20 years in dentistry includes clinical practice, dental hygiene education, dental practice management and dental distribution. Her focus is to provide dental professionals with current scientific research and information to assist them in implementing effective and efficient evidence based treatment protocols in their clinical practice. |
